Afghan idea and updates

I had an idea for an afghan. Get (or borrow, or just look at) Knitting on the Edge, a book of edgings. Then make a quilted afghan in the following fashion: make plain stockinette stitch squares, and then edge each square with a different edging from the book. Intereting effects can be added by making the edging different colors from the squares. The only question ni how to do this is how to deal with the corners. I've had three ideas: to make smaller squares to fill them in, to try and make the square proportions so that it would be possible to tile with "crosses" that would come out of edging squares, or to simply leave the squares open for effects.

Updates on my previous projects:
I've finished my scarf for Yuanli (it came out ok, and I was very happy to be done) and my turtleneck. I've started a lace shawl and the poncho I was talking about before, and I still haven't confinued with my mother's scarf (from Scarf Style), although I have gotten the yarn for it.
